In the Name of God Amen, I David May of
the County of Charlotte being of perfect mind and sound Memory do make and
ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form as followeth( Viz) my
will and desire is that all my Just Debts be paid and discharged by my executors
hereafter Named also I give and Bequeath to my two sons James and Daniel
May, two thirds of the tract of Land I now hold on Reynold's Creek and my Negro
Girl Named Lucy, to them their Heirs and Assigns forever, likewise I lend to my
loving Wife Mary May the other third part of my Land during her life and a third
part of my personal Estate Provided there can be as much Raised without Selling
the Negro which I have already given my two sons James & Daniel My will and
desire is for my sons to live with my wife and for her to have the use of my
whole estate during her widowhood or til my sons comes of age and for her to
give my sons Sufficient education & Maintenance but if my wife should
Marry I desire then for my estate to be Divided and for my sons James &
Daniel, to be kept at school till they are of size to be bound to trades. After
the Death of my wife, I give to my sons James May & Daniel May the third of
my land which I have lent my wife to them their heirs and assigns forever, if
either of my sons should die before they come of age or have lawful issue I then
give his part to my surviving son but should both of my sons die before they
come of age or have lawful issue I then give my whole estate to my wife Mary May
to her & her heirs & assigns forever- Lastly I constitute and appoint
William Kernshan , John Ward, & Edmund May Executors of this my lst Will and
Teatament, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty
sixth day of April one thousand Seven Hundered and eighty Nine .

At a Court Held for Charlotte County the 7th day of December 1789. This Last
will and Testament of David May dec'd was Exhibited in Court by Edmund May one
of the executors therein named, and the same was proved by the oath of John
Maxey, Ward Hudson and Abner Totty, and ordered to be Recorded, and on the
motion of the said Edmund May who made oath accordidng to Law certificate is
granted him for obtaining a probat of the said will in due form he giving
Security whereupon he with Thomas Cox and Samuel Sunderman his Securities,
entered into and Acknowledged their bond for that purpose, Reserving liberty to
the other executors to Join in the probat thereof when they sall think fit
